London LDWA

We have an embarrassment of riches this week, with Gail and John's midweek tour of Putney parks on Thursday, a Saturday hike around the Sussex Weald led by Nigel and, on Sunday, the opportunity to test out part of the second of the two new routes for London Group's flagship event, the Capital Challenge. Scroll down for the full details.

For those who fancy something a bit longer, Essex & Herts Group have extended their deadline for entries to St Peter's Way in a Day, which takes place on Saturday 24th August and is one of the nicest walks in the calendar. Yes, it's 45 miles and yes, you have to assemble in a lorry park in Chipping Ongar for a 4.00 start, but believe me it's worth the effort - brilliant Essex & Herts hospitality all the way round featuring bacon butties for breakfast and superb cakes at tea-time, and some wonderful and surprising scenery in what, as an Essex Girl, I will always call God's Own County.

Meawhile, if you have a walk you'd like to share, see the information box below.

London LDWA walks programme

London LDWA Walks Secretary Marie is putting together the 2020 walks calendar ahead of the Strider deadline. All of the free weekend slots are online and the most up-to-date information is on our website.

If you would be happy to lead a walk on any of the available dates, please let Marie know by August 20th and she will get it uploaded.

All she needs is the following basic information: name of walk/approximate distance/approximate start time/Start and Finish location/a basic brief description/contact details that you are happy to be published in Strider and in the Newsletter.

All other information can be added nearer the time. Marie is also happy to take mid-week walks now, or pop-ups as and when.

General Notes
The Capital Challenge Walk has run successfully for 3 years. However the committee has decided to develop two completely new routes. The first route was tested in two stages in July and corrections duly applied including a slight re-route over Clapham Common to avoid a blind crossing. If you wish to help out testing the second route and enjoy a relaxing walk as well do join in. Susanne Waldschmidt will be supervising the walks so no-one goes astray. Refreshments Park Cafés. If anyone would like to check distances I will be eternally grateful. Assistance Dogs only please
