Stratford and Saunderton with a bit of Surrey thrown in - this week with London LDWA
Stratford and Saunderton with a bit of Surrey thrown in - this week with London LDWA
London LDWA
As well as a steamy stroll with Dave on Thursday evening, there's the chance to keep Gordon company in midweek as he walks out both the new routes for the Founders Challenge. Then on Saturday Lynn will be leading a 19-mile figure-of-8 packed with goodies that includes the Chiltern hills, the Ridgeway, two commons and an ice cream, with a mausoleum thrown in at the end. Scroll down for all the details.

Founders Challenge - marshals still wanted!
With the first draft of the marshals' rota completed, Gordon has found a few gaps. No more early birds are needed, but he could do with 3 or 4 more people to arrive at HQ between 9 and 10 to go to checkpoints at (a) Peaslake then back to help with hospitality and clear-up at HQ and (b) Shere then to sweep back to HQ and/or help with clear-up. Go on - it's always fun marshalling on the Founders. Contact Gordon on gordonparker46@gmail.com

Meet outside Stratford station by Robert the Steam Engine A 7 mile walk to Canary Wharf with optional visit to Ledger Building ( W'spoons ) at end. A different route from my July 2017 walk !
Start Saunderton Station 8.56 (8.13 from London Marylebone). Return trains from Saunderton at 50 minutes past each hour (aiming for 17:50) The morning (in parts overgrown) top half of the eight goes through a peaceful part of the rolling Chiltern Hills with one or two steep hills and many fine views out over the valley. The walk follows the valley bottom before following the Ridgeway to then pass through a series of secluded valleys and the climb up Chinnor Hill on through Radnage and Bledlow Ridge and back along the valley to Saunderton for lunch at The Golden Cross. In the afternoon we head south east towards Bradenham Manor, walk the length of Naphill Common and on across Downley Common to the Hell Fire Caves where we can be tempted to an ice cream. Refreshed we have a brisk climb up to Dashwood Mausoleum and an easy level stroll back into Saunderton
General Notes
Explorer 181,171 &172. Distance approx. 19 miles (10.5 mile morning and 8.5 mile afternoon). Stile count: 8 in the morning and none in the afternoon. For anyone who fancies only the morning we will be back at Saunderton station in plenty time for the 13.50 to London. It is a glorious walk and I'd recommend it as an option if the weather is overly hot
