Our long walk this weekend is Stage One of Peter's Timeball and Telegraph Trail. Meet at the Greenwich Observatory at 9.00 on Sunday for the first 17 miles of this fascinating five-part route which also offers the chance to meet up with our friends from Kent Group. All the details below.

It's a bit of a pain, but...

For insurance liability purposes, it has become necessary with immediate effect to collect participant information on our social walks. Please be prepared to give your name and membership number - or, if you're a prospective member,  your name and either postal/email address or mobile phone number to the walk leader.

Volunteer Marshals Needed for the London Group "Capital Challenge" in April

On Saturday 6 April we are holding the Capital Challenge event for the third year. We will be following the same 28-mile route as last year with a maximum of 200 entrants.  The event has been fully subscribed since early January, now with a waiting list of about 20 people.  One of the reasons for this walk’s popularity is the welcome given by enthusiastic volunteers along the route.

We need 20 or so marshals to make this year’s walk another success. We're looking for volunteers to help at the start, finish and en-route checkpoints by offering encouragement, water and biscuits. We'd also like a few of you to run the electronic "PACER" events-tracking system at the start and the finish, and to scan participants in at the checkpoints. It's not hard to use and it's a great opportunity to learn a new skill.  If you'd like to give it a go, let Jean know (see below) and we will train you on how to use it.

If you think you might be able to help, please contact Jean O’Reilly at joreilly3@mindspring.com or jean@addictionjournal.org. She can give you further details of locations and timings and help out with general queries.

There's a report on last year's event, and some great photos, on our website.   You can read more about it here: https://www.ldwa.org.uk/London/W/5784/2018-the-results.html

As a special bonus, there is a Marshals Walk scheduled for Saturday 16 March, open exclusively to those who help at the Capital Challenge event.
