Who wants to stay indoors in this lovely weather? This week's walks, both led by Lonica, will be enough to tempt even the most dedicated couch potato outside. On Wednesday evening, Greenwich Park and Blackheath feature as will, I'm sure, the inevitable visit afterwards for some to one of London LDWA's favourite canteens, the Gate Clock Wetherspoon's. On Saturday it's time to head to Broxbourne for a repeat of March's wintry walk, with the Sculpture Trail included and looking a great deal less chilly.

Wanted - volunteers

It's time to ask members to give something back to LDWA London and help at the 22nd Founders Challenge on Saturday 13th October. That may seem a long way off but please put the date in your calendar and let Gordon Parker founderschallenge@ldwa.org.uk know that you are available to help.

You can read about the event at https://www.ldwa.org.uk/London/W/5693/2018.html

For newcomers to the Founders Challenge there are a number of tasks and roles to be done at the HQ in Peaslake and at checkpoints. If you are available let Gordon know and he will explain the options.

In particular, Gordon would like some early offers of help with the catering. This is a task that is best shared between 3 or 4 people: we can order supplies online to be delivered directly to Peaslake but help is needed with menu planning as well as coordinating the team of sandwich makers, ploughman's assemblers, etc. on the day. So don't be shy, stick your hand up!

Gordon is of course also hoping to hand the event on to someone else – he's been organising it every year bar one since 2011 – and would love someone to step alongside him to see what's involved: it's not complicated and he has a flowchart!

Please don't be put off by the apparent inaccessibility of Peaslake if you don't have a car: there are frequent trains to Guildford and lifts will be arranged from there. (Yes it means an early start, but every marshal we've spoken to will confirm that it's a fun, sociable day and well worth the effort!)

Finally, the Marshals Walks (both long and shorter routes) will take place on Saturday 29th September. If you would be willing to lead one of these, please tell Gordon.
