The floors have been swept and mopped, chairs wiped and stacked, and the last sausage roll consumed - Wittersham Village Hall, London LDWA's checkpoint on the Cinque Ports 100, was left as sparklingly clean as we found it before the horde of walkers, runners and supporters swept through on a bakingly hot Saturday afternoon which saw us (surely) set a record for serving cold drinks and at one point necessitated Paul making an urgent trip to Wittersham's village shop to replenish our store of squash. A good time was had by London's team of volunteers, with some even managing to get in a nice walk from Rye station to the venue in the morning. Above all, a huge thank you to Maria for organising everything.
Congratulations, too, to all London Group members who survived the heat, the thunderstorms and those final agonising miles around Maydensole Farm to make it to the finish. And remember, if you're a newcomer to long distance walking and this year's Hundred has inspired you to have a go, a great way of getting started on your training is to try one of our lovely weekend hikes.

And now on to this week's walking. Meet at Barnes station at half past six on Wednesday evening for Douglas's riverside jaunt to Richmond, with the promise of a pub at the end. And on Saturday there's the chance to celebrate the start of June in style with Alan's alliterative Twickenham to Trafalgar Square, featuring what else but the Thames Path.

Start Barnes station (frequent trains from Waterloo). Meet at north exit. Finish Richmond station. Walk by the Thames to Richmond.

Twickenham to Trafalgar Square

Route
Meet Twickenham Station (08.28 from Waterloo or 8.38 from Clapham Junction) A linear walk along the Thames Path, through York House Gardens and Marble Hill House, crossing Richmond Bridge. We then walk via Ham House to Richmond Park, leaving the Park at Roehampton and pass through Barnes Common and Lower Putney Common to Putney Bridge for lunch. After lunch we continue along the Thames Path to Westminster Bridge and finish at Trafalgar Square.
