London LDWA

Hello everyone, once again

First of all, I'd just like to say "well done" to anyone from London Group who completed the Surrey "Winter Tanners" challenge walk yesterday.   It was an especially tough day - not only was the weather poor (it snowed then rained pretty much all day), but the ground had largely been transformed into a muddy gloop.   So all in all a bit of an epic.   The full results are available online and can be viewed by clicking here.   (Note the page can take a second or two to load).

Before we turn to our domestic agenda, I just wanted to pass on some sad news received this week.
Sylvia Nagarkar, who was one of the founding members of London LDWA (and, I believe, our first Secretary) passed away earlier this month.   There is a short background article on Sylvia, and details on the funeral, in the "News" section of our website.   You can access it by clicking here

Now turning to our walks programme, this week we have two outstanding events laid on for you.   Let's have a look at the details:

Our first outing is on Friday and, yes, once again "Pop up Ron" has been weaving his magic.    Back, by popular demand, is another midweek daytime special, revisiting his highly-acclaimed "Ecclesiastical Odyssey".  His walk aims to see no fewer than 58 city churches and towers along its 12 mile route, so should be an absolutely fascinating (and largely mud-free, I imagine) excursion for anyone fortunate enough not to be working on Friday.   If you'd like to go, please be at Liverpool St Station (Information point near platform 10) for a 10.45 start.   Note that although this is a re-run of a similar walk led by Ron last November, the route isn't exactly the same so you are asked to download and print walk notes and the list of churches from our website beforehand.   You can access this information by clicking here

Here's a picture of a pub:

 A pub beginning with W

The Pennsylvanian in Rickmansworth
A highlight of next Sunday's walk. And yes, it's a Wetherspoons...

Remarkably, this is a Wetherspoons pub, and the image gives you an insight into one of the (many) fascinating highlights of Godfrey's circular walk on Sunday.   This weekend, he'll be visiting the envrions of Rickmansworth, taking in the Colne valley among other delights.   If you'd like to join Godfrey on this exploration of Metroland (and perhaps find out what the link between Rickmansworth and Pennsylvania is, because I for one have no idea), then just make your way to Rickmansworth station for 09.25 on Sunday.   Note that several of the walk details have changed since the walk was printed in "Strider" so please read the website (click here) or check the walk notes below carefully before setting out.

Well, that's all for now.   Thanks for ploughing right through to the end, and have a great week!

Adam
