London LDWA

Hello everyone and happy Easter!

Well, true to form it's been colder than Christmas, but at least it didn't rain (famous last words...)

Now, if you're suffering from a chocolatey excess, we've got the perfect antidote for you this week.   Yes, no fewer than two leg-stretching linear walks to help burn off those carbs and get you into beach-body trim just in time for the summer.  Wow!

But first:
Although the very successful "Capital Challenge" event is fading into the past, Gordon and Keith have pulled together an excellent collection of photos from the day, contributed by an illustrious group of talented David Baileys, which will help keep those memories alive.

If you'd like to check out the gallery, just click here.

And now - A message from our Sponsors...

Volunteers for the annual LDWA "100" challenge

Every year LDWA London helps out at the national "100 mile" challenge event and this year is no different.

The event is being held in the North York Moors from Sat 27 - Mon 29 May and London Group isgoing to be working at a checkpoint in Robin Hood's Bay.   As well as contributing to the success of this flagship event, volunteers will have plenty of spare time for social walks in this particularly lovely corner of the coastline.

We've already put out a call for voulnteers and have a few names, but are still looking for some more.

If you feel you'd like to take this great opportunity to join a real fun weekend away then:

  • You can return the completed form by emailing Susanne Waldschmidt by clicking here

So now - on to the week's activities.

Our first walk is in fact a last-minute addition to our programme, on Friday.   Yes, "Pop-Up" Ron has been out and about again and is going to be leading a rather adventurous-sounding linear 15 mile walk from Chelmsford, navigating by the stars until he finds a bus-stop to take him home again.   This is a daytime walk (which possibly makes the stars thing a bit tricky) but does sound rather out of the ordinary.   All the details are at the bottom of this email, but if you'd like to go, just pack your sextant and be at Chelmsford station at 10.25 on Friday morning.Escaping cartoon

Route planning for Friday
Who needs maps when you've got a smartphone?

But that's not all for the week.   Our "piece de resistance" is in fact on Sunday, when Dave will be leading another linear walk - this time heading the 20 miles from Sevenoaks to Tonbridge.   The walk promises parks, greens and castles, as well as a rather nice pub for lunch, so definitely one not to be missed.   If you'd like to join, make your way along to Sevenoaks station for 09.45 on Sunday, where Dave will meet you.

Well, that's more than enough for now.   All the details of the walks are below.   In the meantime, let's hope the return to work after the long break isn't too traumatic, and that the weather remains fair for the next week's walking.

All the best

Adam
