London LDWA

Hello everyone!

Well what an interesting week it's been.   But although the political landscape seems to be in a state of flux at the moment, you can be certain that the real landscape out there remains alluring and unchanged.   And of course LDWA London will be reliably out there, making the most of it!

So, true to form, we've got a really great walk lined up this week.  BUT FIRST - I am delighted to bring you news of a NEW WEEKEND AWAY for London LDWA members.   Read on...

London Group Lakeland trip September 2017

Patterdale Sat 23 to Sat 30 September 2017

Click here (or read below) for more details

It is proposed to run a walking week in the Lakes Saturday 23rd September to Saturday 30th. Paul Lawrence has annually run a group trip in June. The activity is of a strenuous nature and it is important that anyone joining the week is familiar with information at the Mountain Safe website http://www.mountainsafe.co.uk/site/en/advice/

The aim is to organise a walk everyday from an arranged starting point and as often as practical visiting higher ground. But there is nothing to stop anyone doing their own thing.

For the moment we just need to gauge interest and numbers. However it is worth mentioning that accommodation does book up very early - Patterdale  hostel (for instance) is already full on some of the proposed dates.

The week will follow the usual pattern of a location that can be reached by both car and public transport, most probably with Hostel, B&B and Self-catering accommodation in the locality. Depending on interest multi-bedroom properties could be booked so that everyone is located in one place. The choice is for those interested to either book their own accommodation and look after their own eating needs or to join in a central booking of a house share, with meals prepared per share. You are welcome for a few days if a week doesn't suit you - although that would probably be on the basis of looking after your own accommodation.

If you would let Godfrey (gdocallaghan@gmail)) or Paul (paulmlawrence.stats@gmail.com) know if you are interested together with your preferences and your likely dates we can begin firming up the location of other options. It would be good to get some numbers by early February so that accommodation can be secured.

Slightly closer to hand, this Sunday we will be paying a visit to the Home of Wetherspoons - and it's hard to imagine anything closer to LDWA London's heart than that.   In an irrepressible burst of enthusiasm, Godfrey (of Patterdale fame) will leading this wandering Watford Wetherspoons walk, starting at Watford Junction Station at the positively luxiriously late time of  09.45 on Sunday morning.   Not only does this walk promise Wetherspoons, it also offers a Green Dragon at lunchtime.   It's a great coutryside pub (and I should know because I used to go there on Friday lunch breaks from work some 30 years ago in the days when it was still OK to do that sort of thing...).

But if you are planning to eat there, you'll need to pre-book lunch via Godfrey
(Please text or email Godfrey on 07712 341 677 / gdocallaghan@gmail.com).
The mainly Thai menu starts at £7.00 - http://www.greendragon.org.uk/howtofindus_html_files/a4inner.pdf)

There's lots more information about the walk in the notes at the end of this email, and a couple of rather stunning photos taken from a recent recce, which I'm sure will whet you appetite for a great outing!
