Dear all
Well as the year lurches to a close, and with only six shopping days left to Christmas, it's surely time to bring a little light relief to the wintry gloom by contemplating this week's walk - in fact it's our last walk of 2016, and we're going out in style.
Yes, on Saturday, Neil will be taking an expeditionary force up the Thames from Slade Green to Tower Bridge, and - guess what - popping in for a quick pre-turkey pint at Wetherspoons at the end! So, given that this is Christmas Eve, no less, pop Grandpa in front of the TV for a few hours, lock away the gin well out of sight of aunty Mabel, and make your way to Slade Green station for 09.30 on Saturday morning. Lunch details are a bit hazy at this stage (but isn't everything at this time of year) but I daresay you wouldn't go too far wrong if you were to pack a couple of mince pies in your rucksack to provide sustenance along the way.

All the details of Neil's walk are below.
But before I close, just two more important notes!
- This is your very last chance ever to enter the 2016 LDWA London photo competition. You know the rules, etc., but if you fancy a bit of break from writing Christmas cards, why not go through your photos and submit them (just by attaching them to a reply to this email) to be in with the chance of winning a fabulous (but as yet not totally defined) prize. Get full details by clicking here
- I am still looking for leaders for the summer 2017 walks programme. If you feel you could lead on either the weekend of Sat 6 / Sun 7 May, or one on of a number of midweek evenings during the summer, please could you drop me a note by reply to this email? Check the website to see which dates are still free by clicking here. The whole Group would be really grateful! Thanks in advance.
So - maybe I'll see a few of you at tonight's showing of "Scott of the Antarctic" at the Royal Geographical Society, which Douglas kindly brought to our attention on our FaceBook page. But if not, as this is the last weekly update before the break, I'd just like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy Christmas!
All the best
Adam
