London LDWA

Hello everyone!

Well OK I know that not everyone agrees that Romford is actually in Essex but where's the alliterative ring in "a North London and Essex Extravaganza"?   Anyway -  more of all that in a moment.

But first, a quick Parish Notice...

Walks leaders for Summer 2017!

Unbelievably, it's already time to start thinking about the walks programme for Summer 2017!

Yes I know it's still a long way off, but I wondered if you'd thought about leading a walk for London LDWA?   If you're a seasoned leader for LDWA, or a newcomer who'd like to give it a try, the whole group would be delighted if you could lead a walk for us.   After all, it's volunteers like you that the club depends on for its success.

The period we're looking at now is 1 May - 31 August 2017 and we are seeking both weekend daytime (Saturday / Sunday) and midweek evening (Tuesday / Wednesday / Thursday) leaders.

If you feel you could put your best foot forward and volunteer, first take a look at the walks programme so you can see which dates are currently free, by clicking here (you need to scroll to the bottom of the list to see the 2017 slots).

Then just email london.walks@ldwa.org.uk with the date slot you'd like (or reply to this Update email) and the date will be reseved for you.   Final details won't be needed until mid January 2017, in time for the "Strider" deadline at the end of that month.   Alternatively you can also email if you've never led before but would like to give it a try.   We can give you plenty of help to prepare and explain what it entails.

Please reply in the next week, if possible.

Thank you!!

Now, formalities out of the way, let's turn to this week's activities.

Our first outing comes on Wednesday, when Ron will be leading a midweek daytime "pop-up" (i.e. not included in "Strider") walk from Romford to Fairlop.   The walk starts at 10:35 at Romford station and finishes 11 miles later at Fairlop station.   This sounds like a fabulous Autumn excursion so if you're lucky enough not to be chained to an office desk on Wednesday, this could be right up your street.

But if you're not able to get out midweek, fear not because on Saturday, Keith is leading an all day hike from Harlow to Chingford, exploring what Keith describes as the "inner sanctum" of Essex.   Well, whatever it is it certainly looks good, judging by the photo (below) that Keith has provided to accompany the walk (although sadly it won't be possible to guarantee sunshine on the day).   If you'd like to go, make your way to Harlow station for 08.54 on Saturday morning.   There is the possibility of a pub or picnic lunch en route.

Well that's all for now.   All the details of this week's walks are below, as usual.

Have a great week, and don't forget to let me know if you'd like to lead a walk next Summer

Adam
