Hello everyone!

This week's walking programme has a distinctly Eastern feel to it.   OK well perhaps Stepney and Southend don't quite have the same glamour appeal as Delhi and Shanghai, but you get the general idea.

So kicking off this week's oriental outings, on Wednesday, Gordon will be taking us on an exploration of some of the lesser known wonders of Mile End and Stepney, including a visit to that most exotic of destinations, the Wetherspoons "Half Moon".   If you'd like to join this particularly interesting-sounding adventure, just be at Mile End tube station at 6pm on Wednesday evening.

Following hot on Gordon's heels, and continuing in the easterly vein, on Saturday, Ron is heading off an enormously interesting-sounding hike round Essex.   His walk features destinations as diverse as a North Sea beach, the world's longest pleasure pier (though I did wonder exactly how many of them there actually are) and huge, wide open skies.   This sounds like the perfect antidote to the Autumn blues, so if you'd like to go and blow the cobwebs away, make your way to Thorpe Bay station for 9:30am on Saturday.

At the moment, I'm walking St Cuthbert's Way, and have just reached Wooler.   It's a fantastic walk in the Scottish and English Border country and highly recommended to anyone who likes to get far from the madding crowds.   The photo below gives a flavour of the scenes along the way - this was taken on Saturday, just outside Kirk Yetholm.

So here endeth the lesson for this week

Enjoy the mists and mellow fruitfulness as the Autumn descends upon us
