London LDWA

Dear all

This week sees slight departure from the norm.

Firstly because our midweek walks (but not our weeekend walks!) become a bit more sporadic until next Spring - there isn't one this week, but fear not we have a healthy programme of occasional midweek excursions running right through the winter.

And second, because next Saturday (8th October to be precise), it's our annual "Founders'" challenge hike, so we're not running a normal social walk over the weekend.

Instead, we'd like to encourage as many of our members as possible to come along and join the challenge - it's a fabulous hike through some of Surrey's finest scenery, with a choice of routes and great views whichever option (16 or 27 mile) you choose.   Online entries are open until 18.00 on Monday 3 October so it's not too late to register for the fun.

And it's a little ray of happiness, after the sad news of Rosetta's demise on Friday.   She clearly isn't better, to paraphrase Alan Price and Georgie Fame.

You can access the online registration system for the Founders' event by clicking here

It's also possible to turn up and register on the day, for a slightly higher fee.

But aside from the magnificent scenery, the fresh air and the muscle-stretching exercise, this year, being the 20th anniversary of the walk, we are offering an even greater inducement to join the event.

Yes, everyone finishes the event will be offered a free, collector's edition, monogrammed drinks bottle.

What finer addition could there be to your trophy cabinet than this?   So, to be sure of collecting your gift, don't delay - book your place today!

- A magnificent souvenir of Founders' 2016!

And even if you don't feel like you'd want to complete the challenge itself, we're still on the lookout for marshals to help us on the day, with a whole variety of interesting tasks, both at the HQ in Peaslake and at the three checkpoints around the route.   If you can help, please drop Gordon a note at

So - that's it for now.   Have a great week, and don't forget your Peas(lake)!
