Dear all
Well I have to admit today's headline is stretching a point, slightly, but it did at least catch your attention.
And it is, fortunately, true, because both of our walks this week are heading out East (actually it's more south-east but let's not get hung up on the details) to enjoy the delights of Kent and its nearby environs.
But before we get onto that, an Important Note about our forthcoming "Founders'" challenge hike..
20th Founders Challenge hike
Saturday 8 October 2016
Yes, it's less than two weeks until the annual LDWA London "Founders'" challenge hike from Peaslake, in Surrey.
It's one of the highlights of our calendar, so whether you have done it before or not, why not sign up for this year's event? It comes in both 16 mile and 27 mile flavours and I've recently recce'd both and can confirm the routes are absolutely stunning - fantastic views and relatively little mud. What's not to like!
Online entries close at noon on Monday 3 October (though you can also enter "on the day" for a slightly higher fee), so you haven't got long left to join!
- You can find all you need about the Founders challenge by clicking here
- You can access the online entries page by clicking here
- We are also still keen to have more volunteers to help on the day - if you'd like to help, please contact Gordon, the event co-ordinator, at this email address: founderschallenge@ldwa.org.uk
- Finally - if you would like to get a flavour of what the route and scenery looks like, you can access a short video which includes footage from "Founders", and which you might find entertaining, by clicking here
[NB - other apps are also available..]
One of the more unusual sights along the route of this year's "Founders'" challenge. To find out what it is, you'll just have to do the walk!

So what's in store from our regular programme this week?
First up, on Wednesday, Neil is going to be taking us on a circular walk from Orpington, exploring the leafy autumnal delights of this popular London suburb AND even visiting a Wetherspoons! If you'd like to go, rendezvous with Neil on Orpington station concourse near platform six (not five or seven, note..) at 18.30 on Wednesday.
Then on Sunday, heading even deeper into the south east, Peter is taking a bucolic exploration of the Kent hinterland - no doubt visiting a few oast houses along the way, and featuring a pub lunch en route. His intriguing excursion is being run jointly with Kent group, and leaves from Headcorn station at 09.20 on Sunday. If you want to decode the cryptic walk title the only way to do it will be to there or to remain forever unenlightened!
Anyway, that's enough for now - and don't forget to sign up for "Founders'"
All the details of this weeks walks are, as ever, on the website and reproduced below.
Have a great week
Adam
