Hello everyone!
Well now that the clocks have gone forward and we've shaken off the sleep-deprivation that the loss of an hour in bed on Sunday morning causes, we've got lighter evenings and longer walking days to look forward to. That is, of course, if it ever stops raining.
This week's walk First to take advantage of the extended daylight hours is Marita, who next Saturday is leading us on a 22 mile excursion heading east from Greenwich (Cutty Sark) along the Thames to Erith and then down to Bexley via the Cray river. This sounds like an excellent opportunity to explore some of the downstream Thames and its interesting environs. So if you'd like join in this journey of estuarine exploration, just meet Marita at Cutty Sark DLR station at 09.15 on Saturday morning.
While I have your attention... I'm still seeking walk leaders for the Autumn 2016 season . If you'd like to volunteer to lead for us and haven't already put your name forward, then please just reply to this email to reserve a date. No details will be needed until mid-May. You might want to take a look at the walks programme first (click here) to see which dates are still free.
I'm also pleased to report that the "pop up" walk organised by Roderick last Tuesday was a real success. Although the turnout was modest, the route was excellent and the scenery fabulous. So if anyone else feels like organising a walk for LDWA members at short notice, please just let me know no later than the Sunday before you're planning to set out. I'll include the details in this weekly update email and also post them on the web.
Finally, don't forget to check out our walks reports page (click here) from time to time. There are some excellent reports and photos and, increasingly, maps and downloadable GPX files, too. A great record of our adventures. And one photo from Keith's walk on Easter Saturday particularly caught my attention (see below). I suspect that after the winter's mud, many of us may by now feel that our footwear could indeed do with of a bit of polish..
I imagine in our case, the answer to this must be "yes"
So - that's it for now. All the details of Marita's walk are below. In the meantime, have a great week and enjoy the spring sunshine, once Katie is safely out of the way!
