London LDWA

Hello everyone

I hope you've had a happy, successful and relaxing Christmas break.  If you were lucky enough to receive new boots, go-pros or socks that are guarateed not to give you blisters (but do) from Santa, and are itching to try them out, then read on..

LDWA London has got a great series of walks lined up for 2016, with an almost-full walks programme right through to our annual "Founders" challenge hike in October.  But before we get ahead of ourselves, we've got a brace of New Year walks to help see in 2016 in style.

First of all, on New Year's Day (and for those of you who have run out of fingers to count on, that's this Friday, 1 January (2016)), Susanne will be leading her annual, near-legendary, hangover-busting hike.   This year it's a leisurely 11-miler, from Barnes to Richmond, taking in five Thames villages en route.  If you'd like to go, just be at Barnes station at 11:05 precisely on Friday

Then second, a couple of days later, on Sunday (3 January), Laurence is heading off along the Thames on the "Green Chain" walk.   If you'd like to find out more about this interesting sounding path, then join Laurence at Barnes station at 09.05 on Sunday.   And you might like to bring a torch, in view of the darker evenings at the moment.

Important note
We always encourage walkers to check transport details before they join our hikes and this is especially important over the New Year period, as Network Rail is prone to do odd things to the timetable at short notice. So it would be a good idea to take a quick look at the National Rail website (click here) before you set out to join either of this week's walks, just to make sure that everything is running to plan.

I'm in the Canadian Rockies at the moment, which is spectacular and very cold.   I've been testing out my snowshoeing technique, which could be useful if I need to apply it while exploring Surrey's icy uplands.

Harder than it looks...

All the details of this week's walks are at the end of this email

And on that note, I'll sign off and see you all next year!

Happy hiking

Adam
