London LDWA

Hello everyone!

Please read to the end of this email as we need your help!

I'm sure that you are all aware that LDWA London is organising the annual challenge hike - the "Founders'" - on Saturday 3 October.   Indeed you will probably have been able to think of little else over the summer.

You will be pleased to hear that registration for the event is going well - but if you, or any of your friends, is intending to join the challenge and hasn't signed up yet, you can go to our online entries system by clicking here.

The LDWA London web-site has also been re-vamped recently and contains more details about the event - including some maps and downloadable GPX files.   You might want to take a look by clicking here

And as the route was being recce'd over the summer, we came across some hikers making an early check of the route near Shere.   You can see from the photo the type of high-class hikers that our event is already attracting.

Here's how you can help make this event even more successful!

We are still looking for a few more marshals for the Founders Challenge on 3rd October. In particular we need 6 people who can be in Peaslake at 7.30 a.m. to help with:

  • managing the car parking (this role is suitable for people who are planning on entering the event)
  • offering tea & biscuits & assisting with  registration.

We realise that unless you drive you cannot get to Peaslake that early but we can offer lifts from:

  • from Amersham (Bucks) departing about 6am and via M25 J18 to J10 to get you there for 7 am
  • from north London, Baker St, Shepherds Bush, Hammersmith & Hammersmith or Putney Bridge to arrive in Peaslake at 8.30
  • from Guildford Station at 0723 for people arriving on the 0645 from Waterloo (0652 at Clapham Junction)
  • from Guildford Station at 0834 for people arriving on the 0800 from Waterloo

There are other trains to Guildford, Gomshall & Dorking so if one of those suits you better please let us know.

If you think you can help, please contact the event organiser, Gordon Parker, on:
founderschallenge@ldwa.org.uk
as soon as possible

Thank you!

Adam
