London LDWA

Hello everyone

Well if the novelty of gazing at the ice moutains of Pluto has begun to wear off, we've got some distinctly high-brow outings in store to provide an equally thrilling feast for your eyes this week.

Yes, you're invited to come and join LDWAs own resident ‘art expert’(!) Susanne for a couple of Constable-themed excursions, to see some of his scenes both on the canvas and for real.

Constable Hay Wain

Just to get you in the mood...

First of all, on Thursday (NB not Wednesday this week), Susanne is leading a London Parks Walk from Trafalgar Square, with an optional art tour beforehand to view three of the scenes which will be passed on her walk on Saturday (see below).   The art tour will start at 5pm in front of National Gallery to be followed by leafy walk at 6pm (also meeting at the National Gallery).

Then in on Saturday, in the second of Susanne's double-bill, she will be heading off into the wilds of Essex to view some of of the sites where John Constable painted his famous canvasses.  If you'd like to join in this unique cultural bonanza, be at Manningtree station at 09.31 on Saturday

The details of both walks, as ever, are at the bottom of this email.

And now (another) word about LDWA Founder's in October

Gordon has a  good core of marshals for the Founders but would like a few more volunteers please. Particularly welcome would be early birds who can either drive to Peaslake for 7.30, when the first walkers will be registering & need a cup of tea & an encouraging word, or can catch the 0645 from Waterloo (0652 at Clapham Junction). We can collect them from Guildford at 0723 and give them a lift to Peaslake for the early shift. Full details on application to Gordon at founderschallenge@ldwa.org.uk

Finally, two of our stalwart members, Godfrey O'Callaghan and Dave Williams will be meeting Thursday 23rd at the Dog and Bell in Deptford to watch the Tour de France on an alpine stage and to enjoy a drink or two. They will be meeting there at around 1pm and it finishes in time to make Susanne's evening walk. Others are welcome.
Contact Dave david_williams@yahoo.co.uk or Godfrey gdocallaghan@gmail.com 07712341677 for final arrangements.

Well that's enough for now, so until next week, have a great, cultured, week and enjoy the walking!

Adam
