London LDWA

London calling!

Hello again, everyone.   I hope you're all enjoying the summer and managing to get a bit of a break from the hurly burly of work.   But even more, I hope you still have some space in your calendars to fit in a quick leg-stretch with the LDWA.

This week, we've got a couple of really good walks which are bound to be much more fun than slogging off to the beach with the masses.

First up, on Wednesday, Christopher is leading a literary-sounding walk from Primrose Hill to Bloomsbury.   Lots of interesting things to see en route and passing through an area of London that is one of my personal favourites.   You might want to check out the origins of Primrose Hill while you're out and about.   I was once told that it was built with the spoil from the construction of the Underground.   Which struck me as plausible but probably an exaggerated urban myth.   If you'd like check out the myth, be at Chalk Farm tube at 6.15pm on Wednesday.

Then in on Saturday, Catherine is heading for the Downs and is leading a 19 mile exploration from Glynde to Lewes.

LDWA lunch

When the walk instructions say "bring a picnic lunch", this is what it means

So if you feel like leavening your cultural diet with a little fresh air and exercise, forgo the temptatipons of Glyndebourne (just up the road) and meet Catherine at 10.15 am at Glynde station on Saturday.   But don't forget the hamper (only joking - unless you've got a huge rucksack)!

That's enough from me for now.   I've spent the last 3 weeks living in a tent in Japan where the temperature has averaged 30C and I must admit I'm quite looking forward to coming home and enjoying some cool grey skies and rain (and I never thought I'd find myself saying that!).  Currently I'm on a bullet train from Hiroshima on the way to try and climb Mt Fujiyama on Wednesday.  Japan is an amazing country for hiking and I'd thoroughly recommend a visit if you ever get the chance.

Cheers

Adam
