1. New members

2. Member question

Russell Bateman would like feedback from other London Group members who currently use a smartwatch for navigating routes. Which device are you using/have used? What are the pros & cons - GPS accuracy/battery life/ease of use etc.

3. Attention walk leaders (past, present and future).

Your Walk Secretary will be incommunicado for extended periods beginning mid-November. Please submit any walk suggestions in good time. A month ahead would be ideal. I will post late suggestions if possible but Gavin (london.chair@ldwa.org.uk) has kindly agreed to cover in my absence.

4. Minibus hire for next year's 100.

For the Hunnypot 100, May 2026, we need somebody to hire an 8-seat minibus near their home on Friday 23rd May and drive it to Meopham, Kent, for use throughout the event with additional drivers, then drive it home to drop off on Tuesday, or Monday pm if the depot will take it. All hire expenses would of course be reimbursed by LDWA. If you can do this please let Gordon Parker know at gordonparker46@gmail.com

5. Capital Challenge - 28 March 2025

The waiting is almost over....

Yes, the entries for London's premier walking event, the Capital Challenge, opens this Friday (7/11/25). All the glitterati will be there. Link here: SiEntries - The 10th Capital Challenge The event usually sells out pretty quickly.

Capital Challenge - Marshals

But before you enter....

The Capital Challenge is the London group's flagship event of the year and we need a couple of dozen marshals to make the event a success. As well as receiving the undying gratitude of 220 walkers, marshals are entitled to take part in the Capital Challenge Marshals' Walk on 14 March 2026 for free - thereby saving an unbelievable £15 (!).

If you are able to marshal, can you let me (Andrew Disley) know at london.challenge@ldwa.org.uk? Please advise:

Turkey Street to Cheshunt

Event Type: Group Walk.

Region: Southern England / London

Distance: 17 miles

Start Time: 9:17

Route: Meet at Turkey Street Railway Station. Take the 08:45 Weaver Line train from Liverpool Street. London Loop including Forty Hall gardens; then White Webbs and on to Waltham Abbey for lunch. Then via Galley Hill and Nazeing through the Lea Valley Park to Cheshunt.

1. Tuesday 28th October: Jerome led 13 walkers on an 17 miler from St Paul's to Gordon Hill: part 1 of a trail that will lead from St. Paul's cathedral to Peterborough cathedral.

2. Thursday 30th October Emma led four walkers on a scary Halloween 5.5 miler from Tower Hill to the Ten Bell's pub near Liverpool Street visiting sites associated with Jack the Ripper.

3. Saturday 1st November: Gavin led 14 walkers on a 23.5 mile route from Waddon to Dorking, of which four walkers completed the whole journey, and all of the rest completed at least 21 miles.
