Surrey Group NIGHT WALK Virtual Ben Nevis Night Marathon

Event Type: Group Walk. 

Region: Southern England / Surrey
 
Distance: 26 miles
 
Start Time:  22:00
 
Route: Meet Holmwood Station(RH5 4RB), use free on road parking (virtual sea level).

West over 6 Surrey Greensand tops from Leith Hill to Winterfold Hill, then - with little overlap, to make 5 loops - back East over them to the start. OS Explorers 145 & 146. OS Maps link (for gpx download) will be provided in advance. Bring power bank and charged phone with gpx loaded (beware: will be OS Maps format). And/or mark up and bring 1:25000 printouts to navigate in the old school way - with compass, step counting, keeping on the correct side of a hedge/whatever, etc5 loops crossing these Surrey Greensand Hills - Leith, Holmbury, Pitch, Reynards & Winterfold.
Finishing back at Holmwood rlwy stn.

Notes: Please email at least 2 days in advance if coming (more if you want the gpx or to mark up/bring your own mapping). And on the day bring details of your emergency contact (e.g. keep it on a luggage tag on your rucksack - mine is in the top compartment). Hilly (c 4600ft ascent), as climbing Ben Nevis (4413ft) from sea level & back takes 4460ft & 15ml. Mostly moderate pace (3mph+) with a few steep ascents & descents that will be taken slowly and surely. Bring torch & spare. Bring picnic snacks, night feast & fluid as we won't pass open shops or pubs. At the finish one can have a cooked breakfast at the Surrey Hills Cafe (RH5 4QU or ///trial.noses.exams), open until 3PM.

Reading to Goring Linear West of Elizabeth Line

Event Type: Group Walk. 

Region: Southern England / London
 
Distance: 20 miles
 
Start Time:  8:50
 
Route: Meet at Reading Railway Station at the bottom of the escalator at the North exit. (08:20 GWR from Paddington or the Elizabeth line to Reading). The southern section of the Chilterns with some moderate ascents, lots of shady woodlands and traditional villages. Finish at Goring and Streatley Railway Station for return trains to Reading and Paddington.

 

Notes: Picnic stops only. Woodland facilities. Moderate pace. If intending to come please notify the walk leader by Text message/WhatsApp, in advance if possible but even on the morning of the walk it is fine.
