Forthcoming Walk
From Earth to the Planets Circular from Elsenham with E&H
Event Type: Group Walk.
Region: Southern England / Essex & Herts / London
Start Time: 9:30
Route: Meet at Elsenham Railway Station. 08:28 Liverpool Street 8:40 Tottenham Hale. Elsenham Station has a c.p, which costs £7 per day. Alternatively, single yellow line restrictions on New Road (leading west from the station) and Station Road (leading south) do not apply on Saturdays. Station postcode is CM22 6HA. This walk honours composer Gustav Holst, who lived in and around Thaxted for many years and, with his friend Ralph Vaughan Williams, noted down many of the then-disappearing folk songs of Essex. We go out by Tilty and the Chelmer Valley, with a probable diversion to Monk Street where Holst wrote The Planets. In Thaxted we'll see the house he moved to after Monk Street and the magnificent parish church, first home of the music festival he founded that still continues. We return by Widdington & Henham.
Notes: This is a joint walk with the Essex and Herts group jointly led with Peter Aylmer. Thaxted is roughly halfway and has many food / drink options and a shop.
Start and finish: TL533270: what three words: steadily.slides.motoring
