2: LDWA London Group AGM
This is a reminder that, as previously notified, the group's AGM will be held at 18:30 for 19:00 Wednesday 19th February 2025 at The Chapel Market Tavern, 58 Penton St, N1 9PZ in their upstairs private room. (It's a short walk along Chapel Market from Angel tube station.)
Drinks may be purchased from the bar downstairs and brought up to the meeting room.
Please notify the group secretary on london@ldwa.org.uk and let us know if you plan to attend or if you wish to give your apologies. Please put AGM attendance in the subject line. The pub does food so if you would like to stay on after the meeting for a meal there please also inform the secretary. The menu is available at
Please note that papers for the meeting will be sent out in a separate email around the 10th February. Hard copies of all papers apart from the agenda will NOT be provided at the meeting - so please come prepared to view them on your phone or print them out yourself.
Please also note that no nominations have been received for the Chair of the Group. Please inform the secretary or the Chair as soon as possible if you would like to stand for this role.

An S to S Adventure: Shoreham to Sevenoaks
Event Type: Group Walk.
Start Time: 10.15 at Shoreham station. (9.38 from London Bridge)
Route: 4 Medieval churches, an assortment of hills and 2 National Trust estates. Finish at Sevenoaks station at dusk. Frequent trains to London Bridge. Buy a return to Sevenoaks.
Notes: Lunch stop will be at the Ightham Mote café which is available to everyone. Card carrying National Trust members may have the opportunity for a brief tour of the garden. Moderate (2.5 mph) pace. Some muddy paths are to be expected. If intending to come please notify the walk leader by Text message/WhatsApp, in advance if possible but even on the morning of the walk it is fine.

Saturday 1st February
Hampton Court to Richmond Palace via 5 Historic Houses
Event Type: Group Walk.

THIS WALK WAS ORIGINALLY RESERVED FOR SUNDAY 2ND FEB BUT DATE WAS CHANGED DUE TO RAIL PROBLEMS.
Route: Meet Hampton Court Railway Station 09:12 (direct train from Waterloo 08:36). South West of London has historically been a destination for the rich and powerful to create buildings and parklands. So popular did the area become that when Horace Walpole was looking for a site to create his Gothic Fantasy in the 1740's he got the last suitable site!
Notes: Our perambulation starts at the largest and grandest, Hampton Court Palace, and passes through some of the original parkland still occupied by deer, to exit at Teddington where we wend to the first Historic House, Strawberry Hill. Reaching the river we pass over Alexander Pope's Grotto, all that remains of his house. Lunch will be taken at Twickenham Riverside (sites for picnic plus cafes, exact location depending on the weather). A visit to the Naked Ladies precedes a sight of York House and Gardens (now Council Offices) and Orleans House (now a Gallery). The magnificent Park and building of Marble Hill House and Grotto now await us and we exit to the towpath which leads us to Richmond Bridge. This we cross to the other bank where after a short walk lies Ham House. Leaving Ham House we go through a glorious tree lined avenue to Ham Common. The final part of the walk takes us to Richmond Park (more deer) and to Richmond (possible tea stop) and finally to the last remains of Richmond Palace. Richmond Railway Station and Underground are a short walk over the Green for homeward transportation.
