Dear all
Well with both the Red Rose 100 to walk and the Eurovision Song Contest to watch, it’s certainly been an endurance-testing bank holiday weekend. My congratulations to everyone who had the stamina to complete either but double congratulations to anyone who managed both.
Anyway, now that we’re back in the real world, there is lots, as ever, going on in the LDWA agenda.
First of all, though, I ought to mention that a few weeks ago the results from the 2014 Founders challenge hike went “live” on the LDWA London website. If you haven’t already spotted them, you can find them by clicking here.
Turning to our twice-a-week walks programme, first up on Thursday (note it is Thursday not Wednesday this week), Peter is leading a linear hike from Green Park to Tower Hill via various London park sights, including the Serpentine. There is the option of a curry at a pub at the end. I won’t reveal the full name of the pub but see if you can work it out from this clue: W**********s. Be at Green Park tube at 18.30 if you’d like to join in.
Then on Sunday, Steve is leading a Lea and Stort Valley Explorer, leaving from Cheshunt station at 09.00. If you’re a bit of a horticulturalist you’ll know that Cheshunt is where the anti-damping-off compound comes from, but may not know much more about it. Well now is your chance to find out what actually lies behind the name.
The details of both walks, as ever, are below.
Finally I leave you with a taster of what you may have missed if you weren’t on the “Chess, Misbourne and Colne” hike this weekend – in the beechwoods, near Chenies. Even more important were the Madeiran custard tarts, but that’s another story..
Have a great week
Adam
