1: New members

A warm welcome to new primary member William Corbishly; and new associate members Graham Fisher, Helen Carey, Neil Thomason, John Wilson, Sarah Sherwood, Gareth Jones and Jack, Jenna and Steven Dagger.

2: 200 mile walk (all in one go!)

Congratulations to our member Andrew Disley who finished the Winter Downs 200 event in 92 hours, 57 minutes and 30 seconds:  an outstanding achievement. The Winter Downs 200 is a 200 mile continuous trail run taking place over 11th-15th December 2024. The route forms a giant loop around the South of England, the heartland of our events, taking in the North Downs Way, Vanguard Way, South Downs Way, Wayfarers Walk and St Swithuns Way.

The Midwinter Wetherspoons Challenge Waterloo to Wimbledon

Event Type: Group Walk. 

Region: Southern England
 
Distance: 15 miles
 
Start Time:  9:30
 
Route: Meet on the concourse of Waterloo Railway Station on the right of Platform 19. A linear route along the Thames to Putney and onto Barnes Common, Putney Heath, Wimbledon Common ending at Wimbledon Station.
 

Notes: Breakfast is available for early birds “cheap-cheap” in the Lion & Unicorn (situated in The Sidings). Christmas lunch in The Rocket, Putney and post walk drinks in the Wibbledown Inn, Wimbledon. This walk is unsuitable for dogs.

The Second Day of Winter. A Kent Group walk.

Event Type: Group Walk. 

Region: Southern England
 
Distance: 16 miles
 
Start Time:  9:00
 
Route: Meet at West Malling rlwy stn main entrance. 07:55 from Victoria arrives 08:46Figure of 8 route. 10 miles in the morning & 6 in the afternoon so very easy for those who want a short walk on the day. 1038ft of ascent, so a relatively flat walk. Moderate pace around 3mph.
 
Notes: Toilets should be available at West Malling Park, around 9.30am. (assuming they have been opened in time) Picnic Lunch will be in West Malling, which is 10 miles & toilets will also be available at this point.

Last week's walk

Saturday 14th December:  Gavin led 19 members on a 18.8 mile walk from Ealing Broadway to Battersea Power Station. It was our first ever walk starting from Ealing Broadway.
