1: New members
A warm welcome to new primary members Michael Shew and Gary O'Leary; and new associate members Linda Coombs, Sarah Bennett, and Matthew Northwood.
2: Annual General Meeting
The London Group AGM will be on Wednesday 19th February 2025 at 6.30 for a 7 p.m. start at The Chapel Market Tavern, 58 Penton St, N1 9PZ in their upstairs private room. It's a short walk along Chapel Market from Angel tube station.
At the AGM the posts of Chair and Webmaster fall vacant, the current holders of these posts having completed their constitutional time in office. As a result we need volunteers to replace them. If you think you'd be able to contribute in either of these roles we'd be delighted to hear from you. If you want to know what the jobs of each entail, please feel free to contact our current chair Gavin Fuller, or speak to him on a social walk - he has held both of the posts in his time on the committee so can tell you more about both of them.
3. Christmas lunch
The lunch will be on Saturday 7th December and will be at The New Inn, Hayes, Bromley, BR2 7EA. This is located directly opposite Hayes station (which is approx 35 mins from London Bridge) It will be between 12pm and 2pm and will be 2 courses (main and pudding) which is £26.95 per head. A £10 deposit will be required.
We will then walk to Embankment (approx 14.5 miles) where we will start our walking tour of the Christmas Lights at 7pm-ish (approx 5 miles). Finish approx 9.30pm in Covent Garden.
The deadline to sign up for the lunch is Fri 18th October (deposits will be collected after this date).

South of the River 2024 daytime walk
Event Type: Group Walk.
Route: Meet Surrey Quays Overground Station.A circular route exploring the former Surrey docks followed by a meandering course through Bermondsey to Tower Bridge. Finish Tower Bridge for London Bridge and Tower Hill Stations.
Notes: Expect a slow pace with stops at places of interest. No limit on numbers, however prior notification of your intention to join us is appreciated and will enable any change of plans to be notified.

A Pilgrim's Progress Part 4: Linear from St. Albans to Elstree
Event Type: Group Walk.
Start Time: 10.24 at St Albans City station. From St. Pancras take the 10.06 Thameslink. The walk will finish at Elstree and Borehamwood station at 4.45 which is 2 stops down the same line from Bedford to London. There are frequent return trains.
Route: Heathland, estate park, Hertfordshire Way, Watling Chase on a variety of paths; some good flat tracks, some small uphill sections and a few indistinct ploughed up paths. Due to the recent heavy rains, there are likely to be some muddy places.
Notes: Picnic stops only. If intending to come please notify walk leader by Text message/WhatsApp, in advance if possible but even on the morning of the walk it is fine. This is the fourth stage of “A Pilgrims Progress” which will be a Long Distance Path walked in 6 stages from Bedford to London. All the walks will be on the same train line, finishing a few stations down the line from the start station. We will follow the life of John Bunyan from his birth in Bedford to his grave in London and eventually finish at St. Pauls Cathedral as is appropriate for a pilgrimage.

Bagshot Heath Revisited. Bagshot circular with Surrey Group.
Event Type: Group Walk.
Route: Meet Bagshot rlwy st. Trains uncertain at the moment (Aug 2024) but likely option Clapham Junction 08:28 & change Ascot for 09:23 arriving Bagshot 09:29. Check nearer date. Mostly on Crown estates, Swinley Forest plantation & some military land, military training area, so beware military debris.
Notes: This a re-run of the Surrey 19th May walk, but on a Saturday & with a later start so there are more rail connections on this commuter line. Undulating, moderate pace (3MPH+), 1200ft ascent, no real hills. Mostly woods & heaths. Bring picnic for 11 mile stop at 'The Lookout' (Toilets) (cafe likely to be busy, so picnic is best).

4. Weekend of 12/13 October: Potter Around The Otter
Congratulations Jim Robinson. Our treasurer completed his first 50 mile walk in the "Potter Around The Otter" challenge event organised by the LDWA Cornwall and Devon local group.
