1: New members
A warm welcome to new primary members Irene Groan, Amy Kaur and Eamon Hamilton; and new associate members Daniel Provis, Martin Hughes, Carl Dipane, Caroline Aston, Caroline Humphrey, Edit Nagy, Jason Kenway, Rick Deacon and James and Shelia Briggs.
2: Donations made
Following up on discussion at the AGM about spending surplus funds, the London LDWA Committee has now made a donation of £500 to Ramblers to cover 20 waymark posts on the London Loop. These will be marked to acknowledge our donation. Look out for a walk in due course to visit them.
3: Walk Leader development – your views please
In line with the continuing need to support new walk leaders to come forward, the Committee also considered offering navigation training to members who feel they want to develop their navigation skills before they could lead.
In exploring options, we identified a number of short, free, introductory online course/resources on navigation and walk leading offered by the Ramblers. These can be undertaken by any member considering leading for the LDWA.

We could consider offering a bespoke session for new potential leaders who have first done the online course or supporting them to undertake an existing navigation and map reading course.
Mentoring support is of course always available from an existing London Group walks leader – just ask Keith Mills the Walks Secretary or any Committee member and this will readily be arranged.
We could also consider supporting interested members or walk leaders to undertake a first aid course.
The Committee would welcome your comments on these possibilities. If you have previously participated in a first aid course supported by the LDWA we would welcome your feedback on that.

Wednesday 9th October 2024
A Pilgrim's Progress Part 3 Linear from Luton to St. Albans
Event Type: Group Walk.
Route: Meet at Luton Airport Parkway Station. From St. Pancras take the 10:06 Thameslink service from the downstairs platform arriving 10:36 or the 10:15 East Midlands service from the upstairs platform arriving 10:37. Allow time to negotiate the intricacies of St. Pancras station. The walk will finish at St. Albans City Station which is 2 stops down the same line from Bedford to London. Cheap day return, after 09:30, to St Albans plus single from there to Luton is one option.
Lea Valley Walk, Rothamsted agricultural, disused railway line, Heartwood Forest on a variety of paths; some good flat tracks, some small uphill sections & a few indistinct ploughed up paths. Due to the recent heavy rains, there are likely to be some muddy places.
Finish 16:45 at St. Albans City Station. Frequent return trains to London.
Notes: Picnic stops only, woodland facilities. If intending to come please notify walk leader by Text message/WhatsApp, in advance if possible but even on the morning of the walk it is fine. Background Information. This is the third stage of “A Pilgrim's Progress” which will be a Long Distance Path walked in 6 stages from Bedford to London. All the walks will be on the same train line, finishing a few stations down the line from the start station. We will follow the life of John Bunyan from his birth in Bedford to his grave in London & eventually finish at St. Paul's Cathedral as is appropriate for a pilgrimage.

From Wolsey to Wombles
Event Type: Group Walk.
Route: Hampton Court Station (train departs Waterloo 08.36)
Another chance to visit the Borough Tops of Richmond, Wandsworth and Merton, as well as Bushy and Richmond Parks hopefully in some autumnal and cervine splendour. Finish Wimbledon.
