1: New members

A warm welcome to new associate members Niwayne, Dumindu and Thilini Gamage. 

2: Christmas lunch

We are hoping to organise a Christmas lunch walk for the London group on Sat 7th December.  

Likely timings: 12-2pm - Pub lunch; 2-9pm-ish- Walk, which will end with approx a 10km route around the Christmas Lights in central London. 

Members are welcome to join for both lunch and walk, or either part. For the lunch, a deposit will be required.

A Pilgrim's Progress Part 2 Flitwick to Luton Airport Parkway station

Event Type: Group Walk. 

Region: Southern England
 
Distance: 15.8 miles
 
Start Time: 11:10
 
Route: Meet at Flitwick rlwy stn. Take the 10:21 Thameslink service from St Pancras. which is on the downstairs platform. Allow time to negotiate the intricacies of St. Pancras Station. The walk will finish at Luton Airport Parkway Station which is four stops down the line from Bedford to London. Cheap day return, after 09:30, to Luton airport parkway plus single from there to Flitwick is one option.

John Bunyan Trail, Chiltern Way, Sharpenhoe Clappers, Icknield Way Trail on a variety of paths; some good flat tracks, some stiff uphill sections & a few indistinct ploughed up paths. Urban section with good pavements in the latter stages as we wend our way through Luton.
Finish 16:45 at Luton Airport Parkway Station. Frequent return trains to London

 Notes: Picnic stops only, woodland facilities.  If intending to come please notify the walk leader by Text message/WhatsApp, in advance if possible but even on the morning of the walk it is fine. Background Information. This is the second stage of “A Pilgrim's Progress” which will be a Long Distance Path walked in 5 stages from Bedford to London. All the walks will be on the same train line, finishing a few stations down the line from the start station. We will follow the life of John Bunyan from his birth in Bedford to his grave in London & eventually finish at St. Paul's Cathedral as is appropriate for a pilgrimage.

The Second Return of the Tarmac Walkers

Route: Meet at Oval Underground Station Vauxhall, Pimlico, Belgravia, Mayfair, Marylebone & finishing at St John’s Wood Underground Station. Many stops on route at points of interest & for refreshment. A slow wander From The Oval to Lords to celebrate another cricket success

Route:  Meet Wivelsfield Railway Station. Train from London Victoria at 08:24. Buy day return to Wivelsfield

Linear walk. Start Wivelsfield Railway Station & through farmland, woods & small villages to finish at Haywards Heath.

Notes: Bring picnic, short lunch stop at Newick (where there is a village  shop) to enable a brief drink stop 1 hour later at the 360° Brewing Co. Taproom.

2. Saturday 28th September 2024:  21 walkers (10 from London Group) joined John Goody on a 21 mile circular route from Ash Vale. On this walk Keith Mills reached 1,000 miles of social walking so far this year.
