London LDWA

Hello everyone

I'm writing this from France and as it's my 30th wedding anniversary today I better make this quick or else my wife has advised me that it may also be my last.

Anyway in the space of a few short minutes, I need to let you know about three important events coming up with London LDWA.

The first is news confirming our annual Founders' challenge hike in October.   The details are below.

The second is that we have a midweek walk coming up this Wednesday.  Andy is leading this after-work hike from Southfields to Barnes, meeting at Southfields Station at 6.30 pm

The third is that Andy (who must be a glutton for punishment) is also leading a 20-miler from Plumpton on Saturday.   The details have been slightly updated since Strider - one of the most important changes being that if you'd like the pub lunch, you're asked to call the pub in advance to place your order (Jack and Jill pub at Clayton on 01273 843595).   Be at Plumpton station at 09.42 if you'd like to join (but note the walk starts from the platform - don't wait outside the station).

The important details about the LDWA Founders' event follow:

Please note that the website has only just been built and we have not yet populated all the details.   But the website will be where to look in the future once the details are agreed, and we'll keep you up to date with developments.

Hold the Date – Saturday 3rd October

This year's  Founders Challenge (click here to go to the web-pages (still in development)) has been moved to a Saturday, to ensure you can let the train take the strain to the start and recover on the Sunday. Detail of how to sign up will be posted shortly on the website.

The event could not happen without the hard work and  dedication of a select team of volunteers. If you would like to give something back to the London Group, we are looking for drivers, cooks, admin staff or Marshals. Please reply to this email if you are interested and I'll pass your details on to Adam Pode, the organiser (Not to be confused with me - Adam Dawson, walks secretary!)

Volunteering does not mean you have to miss out on walking the route as this year, as the Marshals will walk the route the week before on Saturday 26th   September (click here for details of the social walk in Surrey on Sat 26 Sep which will also be the Marshals' hike).  This walk will also be used as an opportunity to show anybody who has not done a Challenge walk before, what is involved. It is open to anybody who would like to attend.

So now you're up to date with everything.  Remember that walk reports are being kept up to date and some photos from yesterday's Hampstead Heath walk have just been posted.   They're can all be viewed by clicking here - and there's a taster of one of the sights along the way yesterday, below.

Have a great week!

Adam
