NOTICES

1: New member

A warm welcome to new primary member David Barnard.

2: New walk and leader needed

As yet there is no London Group walk in the diary for Saturday 9th November. If you have not yet led a walk (or it’s been a while since you did) and you would like to do so on that day please email Keith Mills at london.walks@ldwa.org.uk.

3: Surrey Tops

Congratulations to Keith Mills and Emma Finch who both successfully completed their first LDWA 50 mile event over the weekend at the Surrey Tops. Well done also to the other members of the group who also managed to finish an event made tough by the rain this week.

Forthcoming Walks

Thursday 26th September 2024

A Pilgrim's Progress Part 1: Linear from Bedford to Flitwick

Event Type: Group Walk.

Region: Southern England

Distance: 16.3 miles

Start Time: 10:55

Route: Meet at 10:55 at Bedford Railway Station. Take the 10:15 East Midlands service from St Pancras. This is usually on platform 1 which is upstairs or alternatively take the 09:51 Thameslink service, arriving 10:52 which is on the downstairs platform. Allow time to negotiate the intricacies of St. Pancras Station. The walk will finish at Flitwick Railway Station which is one stop down the line from Bedford to London. One option for ticket is a cheap day return to Bedford since it is after the 09:30 watershed. Do your own research as there are many variations on pricing

Bedford town, John Bunyan Way, Greensand Ridge Walk, mainly on good flat tracks, a few small uphill sections. Main roads at the start with good pavements and many things of interest. Should be mud free.
Finish 16:45 at Flitwick Station. This is only served by Thameslink trains.

Notes: Picnic stops only, woodland facilities.  If intending to come please notify walk leader by Text message/WhatsApp, in advance if possible but even on the morning of the walk it is fine. Background Information. “A Pilgrims Progress” will be a Long Distance Path walked in 6 stages from Bedford to London. All the walks will be on the same train line, finishing 1 or 2 stations down the line from the start station. We will follow the life of John Bunyan  from his birth in Bedford to his grave in London and eventually finish at St. Pauls Cathedral as is appropriate for a pilgrimage.
