Forthcoming Walks
Wednesday 28th August 2024
Prom Prom 2
Event Type: Group Walk.
Region: Southern England
Distance: 10 miles
Start Time: 13:00
Route: Meet on Liverpool Street Station main concourse, outside platforms 1 to 3. Ends at the Royal Albert Hall
This will be a near re-run of the similar walk last year, passing all the main concert halls in London plus a variety of other music venues, ending up at the Royal Albert Hall where the leader will be attending that night's Prom concert. The walk will take us through the City and Finsbury, over the river to the South Bank, through Covent Garden and the West End, into Hyde Park and finally out to Kensington. You do not, of course, have to attend the Prom but you will be very welcome if you do.
Notes: The leader will provide instructions to nearby pubs, tubes etc towards the end of the walk. But if you do want to attend, please text the leader no later than the day before the walk. He will be buying himself an Arena standing ticket for 8 pounds when these go on sale via https://www.royalalberthall.com/tickets/proms/bbc-proms-24/ at 10.30 on the morning of the concert. There might be availability on the night but this cannot be guaranteed. If you prefer to sit, seats can be bought now using the same link. There's a programme of Czech music with guaranteed authenticity from the visiting Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, culminating in Janacek's mighty Glagolitic Mass - if it's unfamiliar to you, prepare for a high-powered sonic experience with choir, soloists, orchestra and the mighty 999-pipe Royal Albert Hall organ. Note that the concerts starts at 6.30 (not the usual 7.30) and will be finished by 9pm.
