2: Some London group statistics after the first 30 years.
In the 30 years since our first walk on August 17 1994 London Group has staged, either by itself or jointly with other local groups, no less than 1,660 social walks, with a total recorded mileage of 27,287 (43,714km) on the walks. The shortest walk was of 3 miles (the first, which took in 3 pubs), the longest 62 (Plumpton to Eastbourne in 2010). 145 different people have led the walks over this time, with walks per leader ranging from just the one to 164 (need you guess who that might be?). There have been 497 different starting locations, ranging from being used just the once (216 of them) to 39 times (Guildford), but only 489 finishing ones, 223 of these having been used the once whilst Richmond tops this list with 42. The walks have been held in 20 different counties so far, and we've managed an average of 55.33 a year to date.

Belsize Park to Stoke Newington (weather dependent)
Event Type: Group Walk.
Route: Meet at Belsize Park Underground Station. Mostly parks & the Capital Ring Walk. Ending at Stoke Newington Overground Station (with access to the Victoria Line) where there is also a good bus service nearby.
Notes: *WALK LEADER WILL POSTPONE IN THE EVENT OF HEAVY RAIN* Contact walk leader on the day after 12 noon. Likely only one toilet stop which will be at a cafe about half way round. Expect to buy something there (even if only a bottle of water) in order to use facilities. Contact walk leader if you wish to join walk on the route

Harpenden to St Albans
Event Type: Group Walk.
Route: Meet at Harpenden Railway Station. Buy return ticket on Thameslink Line via St Pancras (Zone 6 ends at Elstree).
Harpenden-Kimpton-Wheathampstead-St Albans. An easy and attractive walk across fields and woods. Possibility of seeing George Bernard Shaw?s house at Ayot St. Lawrence, so bring your NT card if you have one and are interested.
Notes: Bring food and drink for picnic. Some refreshments may be available on route. Please let leader know by text or WhatsApp if you would like to come in case travel arrangements need to change

Isle of Thanet Bank Holiday Seaside Shuffle
Event Type: Group Walk.
Region: Southern England / Kent
Route: Meet at Birchington-on-Sea Railway Station coastal exit. Catch 08:20 from St Pancras direct. Alternative option 08:10 from Victoria (08:27 Bromley South) changing at Rochester to catch the above train at 08:57. Please gather in the front carriages. A return ticket to Ramsgate is currently best option but do your own research. Cheapest day returns are generally only valid on slower trains. If you want to return on high speed train ensure your ticket permits this. Possible to join walk late at Westgate or Margate and leave early from Broadstairs or Dumpton Park. Follow coastal path through Margate, Broadstairs and finish at Ramsgate. Promenade and pavements with occasional short sandy shoreline. Flat with some steps between promenades and clifftop paths. Ending at Royal Victoria Pavilion Ramsgate - the biggest Wetherspoon pub in the world!
Notes: A shorter walk than usual due to the snail’s pace trains on this route. If you don’t want to hang about on the seafront at the end please make sure you are able to navigate your way to Ramsgate Railway Station about 1.1 miles uphill. Bring picnic lunch but we will be passing shops and lunchtime stop at Captain Digby pub/cafe. WCs aplenty. If intending to come please notify walk leader in advance by email or on the day by mobile phone text.
