1: New members

2: London Group Anniversary Walk

In response to the request in last week's newsletter, Lonica Vanclay will lead a short walk on the evening of Thursday 15th August to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the first ever LDWA London Group walk. Starts 18:00 at Tower Hill. Full details in next week's newsletter.

3: Kent’s new challenge event Wye Not Wander on Saturday 12^th October.

Kent’s new challenge event is open on SiEntries until 30^th September.

Where the Stour Valley cuts through the North Downs, Wye Village Hall is the starting point for three routes of 27, 20 & 14 miles to explore the countryside of the Downs and the Valley. Look for views of the Wye Crown, carved into the chalk for the coronation of Edward VII.

Parking is limited to the first 100 entries requesting a space but the railway station with direct services from London is only 300 yards away so many more entries can be accommodated by public transport or car sharing.

4: Surrey Tops: Saturday/Sunday 21/22 September 2024

The Surrey Tops is a 50 mile cross country walk/run, with 6750 ft of ascent/descent, mainly on footpaths and bridleways starting & finishing at Witley with a 20hr time limit. 5: Beach of Dreams

London LDWA has now joined Beach of Dreams 2025.  From 1 May to 1 June 2025 people will walk together along as much of the UK coastline as possible to celebrate and help sustain the coastline and use the coast path. As London walkers who walk 20 miles per day, we walk along parts of the coastline in SE England on our walks over the year. By being part of a UK wide walking and arts festival we hope to make links with other groups and people, to promote London LDWA and encourage people to walk longer distances including along the coastline.  By always using public transport we help reduce our impact on the environment and we promote awareness of the accessibility of the coast by public transport.

Gavin will lead a walk along the coast from Eastbourne to near to Chichester over the weekend of 3-5 May 2025.

Lonica will lead a walk - possibly  from Whitstable to Ramsgate with the details and dates in May 2025 to be finalised shortly.

Do put these dates in your diary if you would like to join these walks.

If you would like to lead other LDWA walks along the coast in May 2025 please offer your proposals in the next few months so they can become part of the Beach of Dreams programme as well as our own programme.

We will outline the overall Beach of Dreams programme nearer the time as you may wish to walk in other parts of the country.

As part of the programme there are monthly seminars which London LDWA members can join if they wish.  The first is 12^th August from 11am -12.30pm by Stronger Shores and covers how the hidden habitats under the waves can reduce erosion, stabilise shorelines and support wildlife.
