Saturday 20th April 2024

More Moore

Event Type

Group Walk

Region
Southern England

Distance
18ml.

Start Time
09:00 Harlow Town station

Route

By train: 0825 train from Liverpool Street, 0837 from Tottenham Hale, 0847 from Bishop's Stortford. There's also a direct train from Stratford at 0830 to Harlow Town: leader will wait till it arrives.

By car: postcode is CM20 2JD. The station car park costs £6.80 but there are cheaper alternatives nearby such as the Showground car park on Fifth Avenue CM20 1FD which costs £1.25.

We're heading off to Perry Green, home of the Henry Moore studio and gardens, or more correctly to the public rights of way that take us past some of the great sculptor's most monumental works. (It's £18 for an annual pass to go in - well worth it if you're at all local). We'll set off by the River Stort to Roydon before heading north through Hertfordshire and the pretty valley of the River Ash. Perry Green is about half way, but for lunch we'll continue another mile to Green Tye which has a pub (Prince of Wales) and a village green. Returning, we'll pass through unspoilt countryside earmarked as a 'garden town' northern extension of Harlow - catch it before it's unspoilt no longer!

General Notes

Please bring your own food. There is no shop en route and the pub doesn't serve food, but its website states "you are very welcome to bring your own". This is a joint walk with Essex & Herts.
