NOTICES
1) Founders 2023 – REQUEST FOR MARSHALL’S - SATURDAY 21 October 2023 The Founders Challenge Walk is taking place on Saturday 21 October this year, entries for the event have been open since 1st June. We need volunteers for the HQ and the 3 checkpoints. In addition to our loyal, repeat marshals we need more people to ensure the event goes well. The HQ is key as it is the start and finish point and we serve meals to the returning walks. Although the day is form 07.00 to 19.00 volunteers are welcome to do shifts. For further information please email: chris.founders.challenge@gmail.com. Information which is helpful to share to Chris is: mobile, available times, are you travelling by car, are you pacer trained, are you a first aider and what you would like to do on the day.
2) UPCOMING COMMITTEE VACANCIES 1) Founders Challenge Event Director: after an amazing tenure as event organiser Chris Blackwell is stepping down. For more information please contact Chris on the email above. 2) Newsletter Editor after 3 years, I will be stepping down at the end of September and am more than happy to talk though what is required and how to do it. Please contact me via the London LDWA email address. 3) WALKS SECRETARY Jean O’Reilly’s tenure at Walks Secretary will end in February 2024. This is a very rewarding committee role that can easily be shared between two people. Now that we no longer list group walks in Strider, the role is much simpler than it used to be and takes up perhaps 2-4 hours per week on average. Anyone with an interest please contact Jean (london.walks@ldwa.org.uk) to discuss. Emailing Jean would not be seen as a commitment to taking on the role.
3) Sussex Stride 2023 50-mile Event Results . The event took place on Saturday 23 / Sunday 24 September from Plumpton, a circular towards Eastbourne on the South Downs. 9 members of the London Group who completed the Event out of 148 who started (128 finishers). Congratulations to Lev Babiev, Piers Bazley White, Christopher Blackwell, Melissa Butcher, Carrie Gaston, Sarah Horton, Andrew Moore, Charlotte Smith and Helen Smith.

Out and About
Wye Valley Photo: Barry Arnold
Roseberry Topping Photo: Gavin Fuller
Normally, there is only one Out and About photo, but this week we were spoilt for choice. The first was from the Devils Seat on the Wye Way. The river here forms the border between Wales and England. Lovely landscape with the Severn Bridges in the background. Gavin knows my predisposition to publish photos with Trig points. This one spotted as he walks the Cleveland Way.
