NOTICES

1) New Members: Welcome to the following new Primary member:  Simon Goff. Welcome too to the following new Associate members: Joanna Daniel, Ben Miller and David Wood.  Associate members please do share any walks you do in your local area either on the London group Facebook page or direct to me for our Out and About section of the newsletter.

2) Founders 2023 – REQUEST FOR MARSHALL’S - SATURDAY 21 October 2023  The Founders Challenge Walk is taking place on Saturday 21 October this year, entries for the event have been open since 1st June.  We need volunteers for the HQ and the 3 checkpoints.  In addition to our loyal, repeat marshals we need more people to ensure the event goes well.   The HQ is key as it is the start and finish point and we serve meals to the returning walks.    Although the day is form 07.00 to 19.00 volunteers are welcome to do shifts.  For further information please email:  chris.founders.challenge@gmail.com.   Information which is helpful to share to Chris is:  mobile, available times, are you travelling by car, are you pacer trained, are you a first aider and what you would like to do on the day.

3) CALL FOR NEW WALKS LEADERS  Walks Secretary Jean O’Reilly is pulling together the schedule of social walks for August and beyond.  If you fancy leading a walk, we are looking for short midweek walks (7-ish miles, evening or daytime) and longer weekend walks (20+ miles).  It would be great to have some new walk leaders – we currently rely heavily on a small group of hardworking leaders.

Here is an outline of the process:

To confirm a walk we need to know

Name of walk

Date and start time

Distance

Start location / End location

Basic route details

Your preferred contact details -- this can be an email address or phone number.

If you would like to limit numbers and have people register in advance for your walk, you can request this too. You can also let people know additional details, for example lunch stops, pub stops, if dogs are allowed.

We ask leaders to recce the walk in advance; however, this could have been done a few months earlier.

Once you have completed the walk we ask that you provide a register of the walk attendees (for insurance purposes), a gpx file of the walk (if you have one) and a brief walk report. Plus any photos so that it can all be uploaded to our website.

If you might be interested or want more information, please contact Jean on london.walks@ldwa.org.uk.  Contacting Jean will not commit you to providing a walk.
