London Group walk to the memorial tree
Photo: Colin Saunders
Janet Clark, Jeff Golland, Chris Ketteringham, Paul Lawrence, Don Newman, Godfrey O’Callaghan, Colin Saunders, Dave Williams, Tara Williams walked from Gomshall to Guildford via London Group’s Memorial Tree (and variations thereof). The tree itself looked slightly the worse due to the lack of rain and the new plaque will be properly installed when the ground is not as hard. Star of the Week award goes to Don Newman for giving lifts to enable members to join the walk.

Out and About
Tumba Peak 1880m Photo: Barry Arnold
Bulgarian Border Salient Photo: Barry Arnold
Tumba Peak is the point where Bulgaria meets North Macedonia and Greece and I bagged it on a very hot day in August.. The first photo shows the tripoint monument on the top of the peak, the second, shows the complex border arrangements that emerged from Bulgaria unilaterally fixing the point on the peak following a 1913 treaty in its favour. This meant a salient or corridor needed to be agreed so everything joined up. The first or nearest border marker is on the border between Bulgaria and Greece whereas the one on the top of the hill is the border between Bulgaria and North Macedonia. The land in between is the Bulgarian corridor leading to the Peak. OSM: . https://bit.ly/3QL80To
