NOTICES

1) Call for volunteers for the 25th Founders’ event on 1st Oct 2022   this key event cannot happen without the fantastic volunteers that help each year.  Information for volunteers is available here https://bit.ly/3NvLjl5 there are lots of roles both in the different checkpoints and out on the course.  All the details are there.   Those of you who wish to volunteer please complete the form https://bit.ly/3NwmPZa and return it to Chris.

2)  New Members Welcome to the following new primary members: Martin Bakes and Ruth Nolan.

We also welcome the following associate members: Graham & Anne Purdham, David Thornton and Madhuri Bolton.   Associate members please do share any walks you do in your local area either on the London group Facebook page or direct to me for our Out and About section of the newsletter.

3) Accuro 50 Challenge Walk   Peter Aylmer has been working with  the Essex-based disability charity Accuro to develop a charity challenge fundraising walk across its area, 50 miles from Loughton to Saffron Walden. The Accuro 50 is the result - the right length for a 100 qualifier, albeit linear rather than circular. The guidebook to the Accuro 50 is now available from his website www.trailman.co.uk and local outlets; the price of £8 includes a £2 donation to the charity.

The Accuro 50 starts from Loughton tube station and largely follows the Forest Way to Hatfield Forest, where a section on the Flitch Way takes it to Great Dunmow. It then uses parts of the Saffron Trail and Harcamlow Way, with a couple of diversions, to reach the market town of Saffron Walden.

The guidebook has detailed route guidance, useful alternatives, colour photographs and professionally-drawn maps, as well as hints and tips for transport, accommodation, food and drink.  It looks like an interesting walk to do as either a challenge or individually.

4) Pymmes Brook Trail  Colin Saunders is giving an illustrated talk on the Pymmes Brook Trail to The Enfield Society on Monday 20 June, starting 8 pm.  Non-members welcome but admission £1.00, no need to book.  Venue is the Society’s Jubilee Hall, Parsonage Lane, Enfield, EN2 0AJ, near junction with Chase Side, Wetherspoon’s Moon Under Water nearby.  For further info email Colin cswriter@btinternet.com.

LDWA 50th Anniversary Weekend

Saturday 18th June 2022

Event Type
Group Walk

Region / Area
Southern England / London

Local Group
London

Distance
50ml.

Start Time
04.43

Route
North Greenwich Station

Along the Thames Path until we hit the 50 mile mark, which should be in the vicinity of Datchet if the official guide is correct

General Notes
Adapting our former Midsummer Challenge for the Big 50 Weekend, we commence at North Greenwich station at sunrise in an attempt to get in 50 miles by sunset (21.23). To do this pace will have to average 3mph including breaks over the whole day so effectively somewhere between 18 and 19 minutes for each mile walked. The route will largely follow the Thames Path, therefore there will be plenty of entry or exit points en route for those who wish to only join us for part of the walk.. There should be opportunities to buy food or drink on the way but coming prepared with sustenance would be recommended

LDWA 50th Anniversary Weekend Day 2

Sunday 19th June 2022

Event Details Updated
The walk will now finish at Victoria so as to keep up the tradition of ending where there is a Wetherspoons!

Event Type
Group Walk

Region / Area
Southern England / London

Local Group
London

Distance
21ml.

Start Time
09.30

Route
Liverpool Street Station (meet outside The Hamilton Hall)

Meandering across central London to Victoria taking in at least 50 locations which have the suffix square on a street plate/address

General Notes
The second walk for the Big 50 weekend takes squares as its theme. This walk from Liverpool Street to Victoria has been planned to take in 50 locations which have the suffix "square" of varying types. If people don't consider any of them to count then the leader can add in more to make sure we get to 50! The route will pass/go close to multitudinous stations should people only wish to do part of the walk. Lunch will be in Regent's Park - although there is a cafe nearby it might be busy so a picnic lunch is recommended
