London LDWA delayed 25th Anniversary Celebrations.  A further update from Colin Saunders:

 

LDWA London Group is organising a walk in the Hurtwood on Saturday 9th October to visit an oak tree that has been planted near Pitch Hill to commemorate members of the group who have passed away, such as Don Bolton, Kathy LoRaso, Sylvia Nagarkar and Ann Sayer.  There will be three options:

 

1) Short walk from Peaslake (3 miles, leader Colin Saunders).  Depart Hurtwood Inn, Peaslake approximately 12.30 (parking available nearby).

 

2) Medium walk from Gomshall (7 miles, leader Colin Saunders).  Depart Gomshall Station 11.21 (train from London Bridge 10.21, Norwood Junction 10.32, East Croydon 10.36, Purley 10.44, change Redhill 10.52/11.00). 

 

3) Long walk from Dorking (20 miles, leader Gavin Fuller).  Depart Dorking main station 09.15 (train from Waterloo 08,24, Vauxhall 08.28, Clapham Junction 08.32, Wimbledon 08.40).

 

Everyone will walk together from Peaslake to the commemorative tree and on to Surrey Group’s toposcope at the summit of Pitch Hill, then return to the Hurtwood Inn for lunch.  Pub meals must be pre-ordered by September 29th  Please let Colin know your preferences  via emailcswriter@btinternet.comMeals can be paid for on the day.  Menu below or at https://bit.ly/3nbmZuq

Outside Barking Station Finish: Ilford Station

Meet outside The Barking Dog Pub next to station (or inside if early) 
We will visit The New Fairlop Oak Pub on route and The Great Spoon of Ilford Pub is just past the finish, throughout the day we expect visits from a local dignitary well versed in these 3 W's
The original route has been thwarted by bramble and nettle, so more pavement bashing than usual but still some 10 miles of well surfaced paths through town and country parks
