Wiltshire

45 km / 28 miles
This long-distance walking route follows the course of the River Avon by linking existing rights of way from Pewsey to Salisbury. In Salisbury, the trail connects to the existing 34-mile Avon Valley Path to Christchurch.

The trail was accompanied by a walking guide from Hobnob Press in 2010, but this is out of print (2022). This was a series of ten linked waymarked walks. Its author, Chris Cole describes with clear instructions and a wealth of information the memorable places and sights encountered on the way. It was sponsored by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

A newer downloadable version of the route description by Tim Lewis is available from the links below.

The route is waymarked and is shown on OS Explorer mapping.

The route was devised in memory of Pat Beresford, a much-loved countryside campaigner and walker, by Natural England's Living River Project on behalf of Pewsey Parish Council.
