North Wales Castles Trail

Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Gwynedd, Wrexham

A route from Chirk to Caernarfon taking in the castles, or castle sites, of Chirk, Castell Dinas Bran, Caergwrle, Hawarden, Ewloe, Flint, Mold, Ruthin, Denbigh, Bodelwyddan, Rhuddlan, Gwrych, Conwy, Abergwyngregyn, Penrhyn, Beaumaris, Dolbadarn, Dolwyddelan, Castell Tomen y Mur, Harlech, Criccieth and Caernarfon.

Beaumaris Castle is reached by way of a spur off the main route at Llandygai (Penrhyn Castle).

From Llanberis the road is used to reach Pen-y-Pass but this can be avoided by catching a bus or by taking an alternative route over Snowdon using the Llanberis Path and Miners' Track.

OCTOBER 2024: It has been reported that the century-old footbridge across the narrowest part of Llyn Trawsfynydd Reservoir has been closed since the summer of 2022 due to structural problems. It is not known if the bridge can be repaired. It may be possible to avoid the footbridge by making use of a short part of the A470 to the south of Trawsfynydd village.

September 2025: A report of overgrowth with fallen tree on the section of this Long Distance Path between SJ 07125 61910 and SJ07082 62178.
