Hillfort Round

Northumberland

This upland walk over rough terrain involving some 6,775ft of ascent visits fourteen Iron Age Hillforts in the Cheviot Hills to the north of the Cheviot. Good navigation skills are required for this LDWA Anytime Challenge. In the last year members of LDWA Northumbria have walked and checked this route over several occasions. It is now a 30 mile circular route from Wooler, although it can of course be broken into shorter walks. The route description has been entirely re-written as has the GPX file, both are available as free downloads for LDWA members. A points of interest document and information on the individual Hillforts is also available.
