Hampshire, Reading, Southampton, W Berkshire

106 km / 66 miles
The Confraternity of St James has created a route called the St James' Way. This links Reading Abbey, home in the Middle Ages to the 'Hand of St James', to the major south coast port of Southampton, where pilgrims embarked for France and Spain. As ferries no longer sail from Southampton, a possibility for pilgrims wishing to continue their journey in France is to use the Pilgrims' Trail from Winchester to Portsmouth, or use the Solent Way and follow the coast to Poole. Between Alresford and Winchester it uses St Swithun's Way, and between Winchester and north Southampton it uses the Itchen Way.
