3)  A message from a Beckenham based member:

For various reasons, I’m unable to walk long distances at the moment. I’ve tried some ‘normal’ LDWA distances over the summer, but I just don’t have the capacity. Currently I’m aiming for walks of a target distance of around 15 miles. Consequently, I’ve been doing a lot of solo walking. I’d also like to connect with any London members living south of the river - I live in Beckenham -  who might like to join me on these shorter distance days, because having some company makes walking more companionable, doesn’t it? I can be contacted either by email at russell.j.bateman@gmail.com or simply call or message me on 07714 243610.  Many thanks, Russell

4) Essex Walk  We have been contacted about a new walk which looks interesting.  The route is 40miles long and divided into four sections, each accessible by public transport. The walk begins at Radwinter, near Saffron Walden, and ends at the coastal resort of Maldon. The nearest railway station to the start is Audley End on the Liverpool Street to Cambridge line. It is entitled 'Radwinter to Beeleigh Abbey' There is a booklet for sale details are  HERE

5) Lighthouse location  quite surprisingly there was no correct answer regarding the location of the Out and About photo from last weeks edition.  It is in fact Europa Point in Gibraltar.

Route  "Message from Colin"  UPDATE

It’s 9 miles from BPS Station, 7 from Vauxhall Bridge or 3 from the Liberty Bounds/Tower Hill, or you’re welcome to join me just for a drink or two at the Ledger Building in Canary Wharf,

For the full walk I shall be at Battersea Power Station Station at 10 a.m (at the top of the escalator), but if preferred you can go direct to the coffee stop, Tealby’s, which is close to BPS Station (not the Battersea Park café as previously indicated, as it’s expensive and likely to be crowded).  Tealby’s is the café of Battersea Dogs and Cats Home: from the top of the escalator of BPS Station turn right, then immediately turn right again and go along Prince of Wales Drive for 300 metres, past the hoardings and under the railway bridge, then Tealby’s is on your right in a courtyard.

We’ll set off from Tealby’s about 10.30 to follow the Thames Path through Battersea Park then downstream (east).  There will be an alternative meeting point on the south side of Vauxhall Bridge, where we should arrive around 11.15.  From Vauxhall tube station take Exit 1 (Vauxhall Bridge) and go ahead past Pret a Manger to the bridge, where we’ll meet you by the green entrance of the Tideway construction works.

We’ll stop at the Liberty Bounds Wetherspoons (close to Tower Hill Station) for a swift half around 1.30, or you can eat your sandwiches in adjacent Trinity Square.  Then we’ll set off past Tower Hill Station exit around 2.15 pm and proceed to the Ledger Building ‘Spoons in Canary Wharf, arriving around 3.45, where I shall hold court until nobody’s left! I haven’t reserved tables, but it shouldn’t be busy at that time.

The Ledger Building is at the west end of West India Quay, next to the Museum of London Docklands.  The nearest station is West India Quay DLR (250 metres).  Trains from Lewisham and Canary Wharf stop there, but coming from Bank or Stratford you must change at Canary Wharf then come back one stop.

Please let me know if you would like to join me and where (no need to do so if already booked).  If you need to contact me on the day call 07768 453159.
