Cordee 2024
As middle age loomed, Graham Wilson faced a dilemma - 40 and fit, or 40 and fat? His response was to train for the gruelling Bob Graham Round by exploring long-distance routes in northern England.
Forty Plus is the outcome of that exercise: nine walks of 40+ miles through the less frequented parts of three National Parks and over land newly available through Access legislation. Many are off the beaten track, with only the curlew for company. But, as Wilson says elsewhere, when the going gets tough the North gets going.
Mountaineer, fell-runner and photographer Chris Harle has checked out the routes and provided hand-drawn maps and evocative photos. These, in partnership with Wilson's reflective writing, make a unique combination, giving a clear idea of the walks and a real insight into the country covered.
Now they hand over the baton. How about completing the routes and adding some of your own? As an encouragement, Wilson signs off with a brief history of challenge walks in the Lake District and Peak District.
