Outline of appleTamar Valley Discovery Trail

Cornwall, Devon

50 km / 31 miles
A walking route along the valley of the River Tamar through Bere Ferrers, Bere Alston, Gunnislake and Milton Abbot. It crosses two rivers: at Lopwell Dam (by foot) and Calstock (by train).

The river crossing at Lopwell cannot be made within two hours either side of high tide - check tide tables.

The ferry service between Ferry Farm and Calstock no longer operates and the only way to cross the river at this point is by train between Bere Alston and Calstock.

There are also alternative waymarked routes:
A short seasonal route along the Tavy estuary available between February and September.
A route round the Bere Peninsula alongside the river Tamar and with stunning views from Thorn Point.
A link from Luckett to Kit Hill.
An option from Milton Abbott to Lifton using field paths. From Lifton the Two Castles Trail could be followed west to Launceston or east for Oakhampton.

The Discovery Trail can be linked with West Devon Way and Two Castles Trail to form a circuit of approximately 90 miles, dubbed the 'West Devon Triangle'.
