The Green Chain Walk is a collection of eleven linked routes between the River Thames and many of South-East London's open spaces. It can be started from the Thames Barrier or Erith riverside, and offers several route variations as it passes through Oxleas Wood and Mottingham to terminate at either Crystal Palace or Chislehurst. The 'daisy chain' layout offers many options for circular and linear walks.

Though there is inevitably some street walking, there is a surprising amount of woodland, grassland, park and garden and some interesting heritage sites are passed, such as Eltham Palace.

The 40 mile (64 km) route plotted on our map represents the north-east to south-west extent of the walk, and is made up of sections 1, 3, 6, 8 and 10 of the 11 (totalling 50 miles) in the Transport For London (TfL) website linked below.
