Hillwalkers' Register 4

Last updated 7 May 2022

The 2000ft Mountains of Ireland

[Claims]  [References]

This Register records the names of those walkers who have completed all the 2,000ft (610m) hills in Ireland (Southern and Northern). The list represents quite a major challenge. Some are distant from any road. Although none requires specific climbing skills, some involve steep (and often loose) slopes and require excellent navigational ability.

Claims

Claimants must state the list used for their completion. The following published lists are acceptable:

Vandeleur & Lynam (1950s)

Wall (1980s)

Dillon (1992)

Lynam (1990)

Clements (1997)

Edmondson (2005)

www.mountainviews.ie will help you find the hills, but does not focus on the 2000ft (610m) line, but instead the Vandeleur & Lynam list of 600 metres plus which gives a list of over 273 (more than you need for this register). They have produced a book (see below) which will help you pick out a list of the hills over 610 metres.

As completion of the Irish 2000ft Hills requires a trip over the water for many of us, Progress Reports are published in each Hillwalkers' Register Annual Report. If you would like to update us, just email hillwalker@ldwa.org.uk giving details of the number climbed during the year, and your current total. Giving both numbers helps the recorder be accurate.
