Just to reiterate Nigel's point as well, would love more of the boots and backpacks crew to join us. I've specifically kept the 14 hour cut-off to be open to LDWA members (and other walkers) because of the rich history of attendance. Whilst there is a cavalcade of runners at the front, would love a firm base of walkers through the rest of the pack.

The return of the High Peak 40 miles challenge after an absence of eight year's was an overwhelming success as far as I could tell. It started as a one off event in 1986 run by the social club of a Buxton company called Otter Controls to celebrate their 40th anniversary. It proved so popular that they ran it for the first 12 years of its initial 30 years to 2016 except for 2001 of course. The first years were dominated by those with boots and rucksacks. It quickly became dominated by runners without whose support it may well have ceased much sooner. Chris who completed the 2016 event thankfully decided it was too good an event to slip into obscurity and over180 entrants agreed. He and his team of helpers, a lot of which have a long association manning the same checkpoints and other jobs made the 2024 event appear seamless. The only downside was that I did not see one other entrant with boots and rucksack.
Two possible reasons are the level of support meaning only running vests are required and an ageing LDWA membership. This is a shame as Chris has kept the same 14 hour time limit which was adequate for my 68 years of age. Unfortunately, the furthest distance I had walked in the prior three months was just 10 miles, so being ultra fit is not a requirement. Since all start at the same time there is no procession of passing runners. It would be a huge shame if this event was lost to those who prefer admiring the many wonderful impressive views and variety of scenery, rather than looking at their feet.
To be fair there were a few walkers but not with rucksacks and boots.
A huge thank you to Chris and his team for resurrecting this visually varied feast of an event. Congratulations and a huge pat on the back for a very successful 31st running. Long may it continue for both runners and walkers.

My name is Chris Billingham, and I've recently taken over the High Peak 40 from the previous organiser, Bill Allan. As I'm sure some of you know, due to many reasons, the event has been run since 2016 so getting it up and running again is proving a bit of a task! As I've been look through the previous results that I've got I see a number of LDWA members have taken part so wanted to share the news. We have the website up and running at:

Also if any of you have any old results (particularly the results booklets that used to be sent out) or any other memorabilia from prior editions you could share that would be amazing.
