The Magnificent 7 from Sherborne

Sun 5th Jul 2026

Walk Details:

Event Type
Group Walk
Region
Southern England
Local Group
Dorset
Distance
18ml.
Start Time
9am
Route
Meeting point is Culverhayes Long Stay Car Park (chargeable on Sundays but has toilets open at 09.00)

A walk in the partly 'forgotten' North of Dorset to the West and South of Sherborne, visiting Trent, Nether Compton, Over Compton, Thornford, Lillington, Longburton and Folke. If you haven't passed (and possibly visited) enough churches by then, you may want to have a look around Sherborne Abbey OR you may prefer to follow the leader to Ecco Gelato for an ice-cream (or two !)

Due to some issues with footpaths and bridges on the proposed route, some changes needed mean that this walk is more likely to be 18 miles.
As we are walking through several villages and past/visiting several churches on-route and due to an absence of footpaths in one particular area, there will be a lot more tarmac than usual (although it is fairly guaranteed to be mud-free !). Suggested footwear is trainers/walking shoes rather than boots (although that of course is a matter of personal preference).

General Notes
LDWA membership card has a space on it for adding emergency contact details, all members are encouraged to carry this during the walk What 3 Words - winter.orchestra.clashing
