Hello everyone
Well, another fine (!) week beckons, and we've got a couple of mind-expanding and leg-stretching walks laid on for your enjoyment. All the details are below, but first let's have a brief commercial break:
Midweek evening walk leaders for the Spring 2018 programme
Believe it or not, we are in the process of working out our Spring 2018 walks programme (i.e. 1 January to 30 April) at the moment. Already, all of the weekend walk slots are organised, but there are still a few midweek openings that we are keen to fill.
So if you think you might be able to lead an evening walk on one of the dates listed below...
...please just reply to this email and let us know what date(s) you might be able to offer.
Evening walks typically start about 6:00-6:30pm and are 5-8 miles in length. Although the Wednesday date is listed below, the walk could be on the Tuesday or Thursday either side. Full details wouldn't be needed until the middle of September.
Important to fill:

By the way, before I move on to this week's walks, many of you will know that one of our longest-standing and most active members, Don Bolton, sadly passed away last month. You might like to read a recent eulogy to Don, which you can access by clicking here.
Now let's turn to this week's walks:
Our first excursion comes on Thursday evening, when John and Gail are offering to take us on a walk that, in a somewhat unique combination of circumstances, promises to bring us a peacock, a Pankhurst and a pagoda. It's a sure-fire winner, and not just in alliterative terms, so one definitely not to be missed. If you'd like to go, head to Holland Park Underground station for 18.00 on Thursday evening. Note, this is a linear walk and finishes at Victoria station.
And although such a fascinating itinerary will be hard to beat, on Saturday, Rob will be having a jolly good try with a 25-miler taking in, it seems, almost all the key sights of central London! His long leg-stretch makes its way in a westerly direction, all the way from the Cutty Sark to Trafalgar Square, taking in the Olympic Park, and much more, along the way. It's the first stage in a tripartite reverse journey along Rob's own creation -the London Parks Way (click here for more details) and is sure to be excellent. To join the excursion, you need to be at Cutty Sark Station (DLR) at 09.00 on Saturday morning.
Now - in case you think the weather is too depressing, or the ground too muddy, to venture outdoors on one of our walks this week, take a look at the photo below. This was taken on last week's midweek evening walk - a fascinating exploration of the ancient earthworks around Bexley, where we managed to stumble across this magnificent ray of earth-bound sun, beaming at us even when the skies remained gloomily opaque:
OK the weather hasn't been brilliant lately - but there's lots of "sun" out there if you know where to look! An unusual crop, spotted on Peter's Bexley walk last Tuesday
Well, that's enough for now. All the details of our walks are on our website, and are reproduced below.
Have a great week!
Adam
